Hoshi Hyoryu

Twinkle, twinkle, little star...

Through negation, thaumaturgists make colors brighter through contrast. And so I walk to the four corners of the world wrapped in night for to accent the light.

A 'black wizard', as he calls himself. Hoshi is a Xaela of the Mol, hailing once from the Steppe, but that was long ago and much has changed.

Appearance

An imposing Xaela, Hoshi is most often clad in some form of rich red robes with an ornate staff of masterful craftsmanship. Resting on their own about his neck are 6 rainbow crystal shards, familiar, if in passing, to Her light.

For those with the capacity to sense it, Hoshi's aether is abnormal, polarized deeply towards Darkness while lacking the taint of Void. The behavior is even stranger, as it flows in from above and in particular with his breath, feeding his violet personal aether which twinkles with golden motes. What's more, aether also flows out rom the man through his feet and hands, though it seems harmless, invigorating even...

The man bears a number of items of significant aetheric presence besides. Most significant is his staff, being wildly more dense in Dark aether than Hoshi himself. He and his staff are obviously deeply connected, with aether flowing between them at all times and an identical spectrum. Another facet is those crystals, which possess pure golden aether, Light polarized and composed of all six aspects. They seem to be almost identical to Hoshi's personal aether as well.

Hooks

  • Arcane Artifice: Magickal artifacts and materials pass through Hoshi's hands often, and he has been known to create such things on request, sometimes for little or no cost. Have you need of some magick tool or draught? Or perhaps you have something you want to get rid of. He has been known to sequester and safeguard (by some means...) dangerous objects and forbidden knowledge.

  • Fellow Fighter: You met Hoshi, even if only briefly, during an excursion or war campaign. His demeanor is much the same, being his laid-back old self.

  • Fellow Magician: Hoshi has met many mages and inquired about their craft and so too has he been questioned about his own. You may very well be the next for one such conversation.

  • Fellow Traveler: You either personally met Hoshi or simply saw him during his travels. Perhaps he did your home community a service in destroying some monsters, rooting out a lurking evil, or unravelling some strange mystery. Or perhaps you simply saw him passing, one of many on the roads.

  • Aetheric Beacon: You heard of Hoshi's status as a demon-magnet, or perhaps you are an aether-eater of some kind and sought him out for his vast supplies of delectable aether. Either way, those with the resources would find such an unusual mage eventually.

History

While the full history of a man is not something one is generally privy to, Hoshi has made himself known through his travels and his deeds.

Travels

Hoshi set out from the Azim Steppe before the 7th Umbral Calamity struck, and was a budding thaumaturge by the time it happened. From there, he has appeared in most of the known world at some point or another, typically on or between jobs as a freelance adventurer or simply in search of some sort of magical lore.

Warfare

Somewhat into his career and travels, Hoshi took up arms as a mercenary for the Grand Companies of Eorzea and likewise aided the rebellions in both Gyr Abania and Othard. In his battles, he mostly leveraged his magical prowess to aid in destroying fortifications, blast enemy groups that were caught out, and, most often, to destroy magitech constructs and armor with flames and lightning.

After War

With the Garlean Empire repelled, Hoshi returned to his prior profession as an adventurer, largely disappearing as he went about long trips to wild and forgotten corners of the world.Now and then since, he crops up here or there, most often recognizable by his unusual staff and foreboding presence.

Unto Night

Over the course of many months of component projects, endless research and experimentation, and the help of many, Hoshi has undergone a transformative process utilizing magitek and arcane constructs to, supposedly, indefinitely fend off aging. His method of choice had consequences, both good and bad, and it has aligned him to the celestial currents, transmuting his body into a partially aetheric one. Most relevant of the results to others is the fact he now passively provides a measure of vital energy to beings around him, right down to the grass. However, this serves to draw aether-eating beings, Voidsent first and foremost, to prey upon him with some regularity.
